A. Duie Pyle recently held a "Chemical Day" symposium at its headquarters, covering the topic of terrorism on the road.

The symposium brought together experts from the FBI, the U.S. DOT division for hazardous materials transport, the Port Authority Police of New York, the American Chemistry Council, and the Department of Homeland Security. Led by Tom Walker, director of chemical markets and compliance at A. Duie Pyle, and Peter Latta, chairman and owner, the symposium covered the timely topics of potential terrorist threats and scenarios, current regulations for hazardous materials transportation, and the procedures for the safe and secure transportation of chemicals.

"As a carrier with more than eight decades of experience transporting chemicals and the region's only LTL [less-than-truckload] Responsible Care carrier in the Northeast, we were confident that Chemical Day would foster an open exchange of ideas and information on the safe and secure transportation of chemicals," Walker said.

A. Duie Pyle participates in the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care program for the environmentally responsible stewardship of chemicals in transit. In addition to the panel of speakers involved in the event, the attendees included representatives from major chemical manufacturers and distributors.
