Commentary: Shall We Automate?

By Rolf Lockwood, Executive Contributing Editor

Every year for the last two or three centuries (or so it seems), March has meant a trip to Louisville, Ky., and the Mid-America Trucking Show. And every year the show produces a dominant theme, albeit unwritten, in the collection of new products introduced there.

MATS Focus: Integrated Drivetrains and Automated Transmissions

The Cummins ISX 15 SmartAdvantage powertrain.

By Rolf Lockwood, Executive Contributing Editor

On the Paccar Twins' Engine

By Steve Sturgess, executive editor

A year ago we predicted that the new Paccar 12.9-liter MX engine used in Europe would be seen here in North America. So it was hardly a big surprise to see the engine in a Peterbilt 389 and a Kenworth T660 at a Dallas truck show in the fall. The MX was incredibly quiet and had plenty of get up and go.
