If you were in trucking about 30 years ago, you might remember the switch from incandescent sealed-beam headlamps to halogens, which were so much better that some truck operators stopped using auxiliary fog and driving lights. A more recent step up was projector-beam lamps, whose optics better aim the lumens from halogen bulbs and even more effectively light the way for drivers.

Pushing the Telematics Boundaries

A truck’s telematics unit acts as a communications hub, transmitting data from various sensors and systems on the truck. While they send the collected data back to the fleet, they also receive data such as driver instructions, or commands to various devices such as the refrigeration unit.

Depending on who you are in the medium-duty truck business, things are going great, or well, or not so good but looking up. A few builders have picked up market share in Classes 3, 4 and 5 and in Class 6-7. Others have lost some or a lot, but sales continue to climb for most midrange truck makers.
